Major Activities & Achievements

In the short time since its conception, the Forum is proud to have drawn from the commitment of its member institutions in order to successfully undertake the following “baby steps" and activities:

  • Organized two fully attended meetings (in Abuja on 1st October, 2004, and at OAU Ife from 14th-16th March, 2005
  • Negotiated a Linux training program for the University of Jos, which was shared by some Forum members from 13-18th December 2004
  • Organized a technicians Bandwidth Optimization Workshop at the OAU Ife from 14th-16th March, 2005 in part to prepare member institutions for the impending Partnership bandwidth procurement and management capacity building activities anchored by the AVU and TENET. It was well attended with 12 resource persons (of which 5 were from the local private sector and the rest from OAU Ife), and 29 delegates, as some Forum institutions sent as many as five delegates.
  • Sent two delegates (from Ibadan and Kano) to the National Stakeholders Consultative Meeting on 23rd March, 2005 on National Policy and the Management of Nigeria’s Country Code Top Level Domain (ccTLD); and
  • Identified “electric powerlessness" as a major constraint for universities’ networks, and has accordingly awarded hosting rights to the University of Port-Harcourt for a Forum workshop that will hold in 2005 on Power Planning, Conditioning and Management.
  • The Forum is equally delighted to have earned sufficient confidence;

  • for the University of Jos to transfer organizational and administrative responsibilities for the annual National Conference on ICTs and Education, beginning with the 5th edition scheduled to hold in January-February 2006;
  • and to be adopted as a Partnership for Higher Education in Africa, in March 2005.
