Strategies and Planned Activities

During the next two years, the Forum will implement strategic project activities aimed at Building ICT Capacity and Confidence in Nigerian Partnership Institutions. Broadly, the activities will consist of Policy Analysis, Review, Advocacy and Defence, as well as ICT Capacity Building.

The Forum will partner with like-minded organizations and groups to conduct or commission studies on major policy issues that impact on the development and advancement of higher education and research in Nigeria, share the results widely, and bring up the recommendations for discussion by key stakeholders at a National Conference on ICTs and Education that would be organized by the Forum once a year.

Confident ICT Capacity will be rapidly built-up by:

  • Organizing a series of Forum workshops and meetings addressing specific areas of common training needs of member institutions using the best resources obtainable. One of these held in July 2006 to prepare participants for the Network Operators Group workshops, by bring them up to speed in UNIX system administration.
  • Deploying, in partnership with the private sector and the international community, an adaptation of AFNOG & INET workshops- the Nigeria Network Operators Group (NGNOG) Workshop- once a year, targeted chiefly for member institutions but that would also be open to other HEIs and private sector.
  • Arranging study-tours to other networks and institutions at the fore-front of the ICT revolution
  • Collaborating with the private sector and other agencies for Nigeria to host the 2007 edition of AFNOG for the benefit of members and the wider ICT community in Nigeria and Africa.
